The Bob's Burgers Movie is an upcoming animated musical adventure comedy film based on the animated TV series of the same name. This will be the second film based on a FOX animated series, the first being The Simpsons in 2007. The events of the film will take place between the 12th and 13th seasons of Bob's Burgers.

It is scheduled to be theatrically released by 20th Century Studios on May 27, 2022, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Production

On October 4, 2017, 20th Century Fox announced that a movie based on the FOX animated series Bob's Burgers is in the works to be released on July 17, 2020.[1] Series creator Loren Bouchard had said the movie will "scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had", while being appealing to new audiences.[2]

On October 30, 2017, a new created 20th Century Fox division, Fox Family, was created to oversee feature film adaptation of its TV shows. This included taking Bob's Burgers over from 20th Century Fox Animation.[3]

On July 18, 2018, Bouchard said that the script has been submitted and accepted by the studios. The movie will be a musical comedy and would involve Louise and her night light Kuchi Kopi inside her fantasy world as a minor subplot.[4]

On November 17, 2019, the movie was inadvertently left off of Disney's release schedule,[5] but the following day it was back up on the schedule,[6] with a release date of July 17, 2020.[7] [8]

On April 3, 2020, in announcing revised released dates due to the global health crisis of the COVID-19 outbreak, Disney announced that the film would be delayed until April 9, 2021.[9]

On September 24, 2020, star H. Jon Benjamin confirmed that work on the film was being done remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while also revealing that recording for the film has already begun,[10] with the cast reprising their roles from the television series.

On January 22, 2021, Disney indefinitely delayed the release of the film, raising questions about the movie heading to Disney-owned streaming platforms.[11]

On September 10, 2021, Disney and 20th Century Studios uploaded the first teaser poster. At the same time, a new release date of May 27, 2022 was announced for the film.[12] [13]

Trivia

  • This film will be the final animation work for both Tuck Tucker and Dale Baer before their deaths on December 22, 2020 and January 15, 2021 respectively.
  • The film will mark the first hand-drawn animated film to be theatrically released by Disney since Walt Disney Animation Studios' Winnie the Pooh (2011).
